Opportunity Watch: AI, Crypto & Sustainable Energy

AI: Defense primes building agentic-AI practices

GDIT was named an OpenAI Select Partner for federal AI modernization — covering Codex-driven legacy-system migration (COBOL/Fortran) and agentic workflow automation. This signals large government-IT primes are actively building out agentic-AI practices around defense and federal systems, a positioning angle worth watching for AI-planning consultancy work with defense-adjacent programs.

Crypto: Institutional “productive treasury” shift accelerating

Staked-crypto ETFs have grown to $5.8B of $140B total crypto ETF AUM, and BlackRock’s yield-bearing ETH ETF (ETHB) is now live — signs that institutions are increasingly shifting from passive holding to yield-generating treasury strategies. Worth weighing a partial-portfolio staking/yield allocation against a pure hold-and-evaluate approach. Caution: Asia’s $1B ETH treasury consortium just paused amid ETF outflows, suggesting institutional risk appetite for these strategies is cooling — useful context before making any move.

Sustainability: Malaysia’s CRESS scheme hits 1.3GW committed

Malaysia’s CRESS bilateral energy supply scheme has reached 1.3GW committed capacity, driven by hyperscale data centers (DayOne 500MW, Bridge Data Centers 400MW) locking in 21-year green power purchase agreements directly with solar developers. This bilateral-contract mechanism — data-center-scale offtake paired with dedicated solar — is the closest real-world template for structuring a future crypto-mining-plus-solar offtake deal, potentially bypassing Singapore’s high electricity tariffs entirely.
